How to plan for a wireless charging countertop in your kitchen?

You’ve just finished your beautiful kitchen remodel and it’s never looked better and the first thing that happens is a phone charger goes in and a wire sits on your countertop forever sending your kitchen back into a state it already looked like.

Or have you ever been low on plug points in your kitchen and not sure what to leave plugged in? or ever wish you had less clutter when you’re trying to cook or entertain? or come home one day and the charger has been taken by someone?

Well adding wireless charging for a kitchen island or countertop is the solution to solve all these problems and free up space.

How does a wireless charging countertop work?

With enough power and the correct communication technology, wireless power can be safely transmitted through a dense material to reach your phone’s corresponding wireless charging coil in the back. Within a kitchen, this requires a wireless charger to be attached to the underside of your countertops to rid yourself of wires and adapters in critical areas and convert that space into a countertop that charges your phone!

What materials can it work with in my kitchen?

Whether you’re remodelling your kitchen or renovating, wireless charging can be added to any non-metallic material countertop including quartz, marble, Cambria, concrete, and wood.

Where should I plan to install it?

Kew Labs Daisy chain option allows you to have multiple wireless charging stations in your kitchen to allow multiple users to charger their phone and give you a range of choices of where to install it.

Think about places where:

  • Where do you spend the most time
  • You need the most space
  • The most people are sat around
  • Where your plug points are under your countertops.

How should I plan the Installation?

If you are remodelling your kitchen or building a new one, it’s best to speak to your countertop and kitchen provider to ensure that the areas you are looking to convert into a charging station are prepared to the correct thickness and power requirements.

Please download our recommended installation drawings and share them with your countertop or kitchen provider.

What’s required?

  • A mains plug point -(daisy chaining 2 chargers only requires 1 plug point)
  • some air ventilation – kitchen carcasses will need to have an area cut out to provide suitable ventilation.
  • Correct surface thickness – We recommend asking your countertop provider to reduce the surface thickness to 10mm or work towards our ‘thin’ distance (0.39″-0.66″ 10-17mm) specification to achieve best charging results. Kew Labs can also work directly with your provider to ensure this runs smoothly.

If you are not remodelling your kitchen, our chargers can be installed under countertops that are 1” or less, however iPhone 12 and Airpod’s with wireless charging will need to be installed in areas under 0.8”.
